Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world according to a new analysis of religious surveys published by the Pew Research Center.

Roughly 23% of the world’s population was made up of Muslims as of 2010. And Pew says that by the end of this century Muslims will overtake Christianity as the most popular religion.

Indonesia has the largest Muslim population but by the year 2050 India will surpass it with more than 300 million Muslims. Europe is also showing an increase in their Muslim populations. Projections say in a little more than 30 years, 10% of all Europeans will be Muslims.

America is also seeing an increase. Pew estimates that in 2015 there were 3.3 million Muslims in the U.S. By 2050 they will make up over 2% of the U.S. population making them the second largest faith group in the country.

The main factors behind the projected growth of Islam is the greater number of children Muslims have compared to other religions and also Muslims are the youngest of all

The reasons for this rapid growth are thought to be the greater number of children Muslims have and the comparatively median age of most Muslims compared to other religious groups.
