(WASHINGTON, D.C.) The Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson misspeaks again during an interview when reacting to the Chelsea explosion on Saturday night, the pipe bomb in New Jersey and mall stabbing attack in Minnesota. Johnson stated on CNN'S "Reliable Sources" on Sunday that no one had been hurt.
“Well, first of all, just grateful that nobody got hurt.”
At the time of the interview facts already released confirmed that twenty-nine people were injured in Chelsea alone and nine people were stabbed at a St. Cloud mall. This is the second time the third party candidate makes a damaging statement. The first time was back in September during an MSNBC interview when he did not know Aleppo to be the city at the center of the humanitarian crisis caused by Syria’s civil war.
Johnson issued a separate statement later in the afternoon acknowledging the injuries.
“Our thoughts are with the those [sic] injured in the attacks in New York City and Minnesota,” the statement read. “Regardless of the motivations for such senseless acts, they remind us that there are very real threats to our safety and our freedom, threats that must be dealt with realistically and firmly.”
Johnson needs an average of 15 percent in national polls to make one of the presidential debates with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. He’s now close to 9 percent.
