Bill O’Reilly was forced out at the Fox News Network. Many have questions as to just exactly why. Was it because of the alleged allegations coming from 5 women, or was it because of Rupert Murdoch’s power hungry liberal infused sons that felt the need to oust the man who ‘created Donald Trump’?
Now, if the allegations against O’Reilly are true then yes, he need to be fired. But, these allegations have come over a span of several years and Fox News has always stood by O’Reilly. What’s different now?
According to CNN’s Chris Cillizza, “To understand just how big a deal Fox News' decision to part ways with Bill O'Reilly is, you first have to understand this: O'Reilly was the front-facing spokesman for the modern-day conservative movement just as now-deposed Fox boss Roger Ailes was its behind-the-scenes architect. For the generation of conservatives who came into their political prime from the late 1990s through, well, today, O'Reilly was a North Star of sorts. He was a clear break from the intellectual stuffiness of Irving Kristol or William F. Buckley. He was a tough-talking populist, willing to stare down the so-called "mainstream media" and skewer political correctness.”
Cilliza went on to describe that this ‘populism’, wariness of elites and a deep and abiding distrust in the mainstream media also became core tenets of modern conservatism as imagined by O'Reilly and Ailes.
“That rising conservative populism eventually gave birth to a candidate named Donald Trump. Trump embodied many of the principles that O'Reilly had popularized over the years -- most notably a visceral rejection of political correctness and a willingness to blame most of the problems in the country on a biased and liberal media,” Cilliza said.
It’s hard to disagree with Cilizza’s analysis that O’ Reilly primed the pump for a man like Donald Trump to take center stage. But, that begs the question, is that the underlying motivation of the bitter, fury infilled Murdoch boys and the other leftists at the network motivation for finally ‘cutting the cord’ on O’Reilly? Once again, some of the allegations against O’Reilly were years ago, why did Fox News just now decide to cut him loose?
